The Mindset List is supposed to show how different this generation of students are from those prior to 1990. Feel free to read through and I'm sure you'll have a similar response to mine.
Here's a little taste for those of you who are against clicking on the links:
-->This group of politically correct kids has never feared the Russians or known great performers like Sammy Davis, Jr., Judy Garland, Jimmy Stewart or Dean Martin.
--> Since they were in diapers, they have been singing along to karaoke machines looking for Carmen Sandiego.
--> Coke and Pepsi have always used recycled plastic bottles.
-->Gas stations haven't fixed flat tires but serve cappuccino.
--> They have all read the book, "All I Ever Needed to Know I Learned in Kindergarten."
--> IBM has never made typewriters and electronic tax filing has been an option.
--> They never got to use a color called raw umber in the Crayola pack.
--> Jay Leno has always hosted the Tonight Show
--> Caller ID has been available on telephones.
-->Harry Potter could be a classmate, playing on their Quidditch team.Holy Crap. My 80s childhood is showing. I mean, remember when Caller ID came out and it was basically like you were your own private wire tapping service, allowed to know who was calling way before you picked up the phone. And then you could be like, "Hey Suzie!" And she'd be like, "How did you know it was me?" "Oh, I have my ways," you'd LOL (a nonexistent acronym at the time).
And so, in an effort to remember the good old days, I bring you this
"My 80s are Showing" - Round 1
Remember when D.A.R.E started? McGruff definitely came to Cannon Elementary School and told us about it.
And tons of kids wore this shirt. I don't think I ever had one, but I'm sure I need one now.
D.A.R.E - which, if we're being honest, I couldn't tell you what it stands for without a www search. But it was definitely lands in the same bag as the "Any Questions? Commercial"
I suppose that's all I have for now. Still trying to get over the fact that people born in 1990, are now entering college.
Awesomely getting old-- unbeknownst to me until some people at an obscure Wisconsin college brought it all to light,
Melanie
